A remarkable chapter was written in the history of Celestial Church of Christ Ireland Diocese on Saturday, 14th June 2026 as the Diocese witnessed a peaceful and exemplary transition of leadership from Assistant Most Superior Evangelist Tunde Afolalu to the newly appointed Head of Diocese, Venerable Superior Evangelist Toro Sodimu.
The historic handover ceremony took place at the National Headquarters of the Ireland Diocese during the Parish Adult Harvest Thanksgiving Service attended by shepherds, church workers, members, and distinguished guests from within and outside the Diocese. Among the notable personalities present were Most Superior Evangelist Fastsui and Venerable Superior Evangelist Tunji Bakare from the United Kingdom Diocese, who joined members of the Ireland Diocese in celebrating the memorable occasion.
Speaking during the ceremony, AMSE Tunde Afolalu reflected on his fifteen-year tenure as Head of Diocese and expressed profound gratitude to God, the Pastor Rev. Emmanuel Mobiyina Friday Oshoffa for the privilege and confidence reposed in him throughout his years of service.
He emphasized that peace remains one of the greatest assets of any religious organization and commended members of the Ireland Diocese for their unwavering support, cooperation, and commitment during his administration.
According to him: “Peace is very important in every religious organization. Ireland Diocese has remained peaceful for many years, and I sincerely appreciate the cooperation, commitment, and support I received throughout my fifteen years as Head of Diocese.
It is unusual circumstances that a transition is happening here because we have often witnessed tension in other dioceses whenever leadership tenure changes. However, we understand ourselves and have chosen the path of peace. I want to sincerely apologize to anyone whom I may have offended during my years of service, and I also affirm that I have forgiven everyone who may have offended me.”
In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed Head of Diocese, VSE Toro Sodimu paid glowing tribute to his predecessor, describing AMSE Afolalu as not only a respected leader but also a cherished friend and brother in Christ.
According to VSE Sodimu: “We are only witnessing a change in the individual occupying the office of Head of Diocese. The work of God will continue, and the growth of the Diocese will remain sustainable. AMSE Afolalu and I are friends and brothers in Christ. Our bond of friendship remains strong, and my love and respect for him remain undaunted.”
His remarks were received with applause from members who viewed the transition as a demonstration of unity, maturity, and mutual respect. As the Ireland Diocese begins a new phase under the leadership of VSE Toro Sodimu, members remain optimistic that the Diocese will continue to experience progress, stability, and spiritual advancement while building on the solid foundation established during the tenure of AMSE Tunde Afolalu.
