On the 19th of February 2022, the Shepherd of Celestial Church of Christ Onala Parish in Ibadan in person of A/V/S/E Matthew Kolawole Olakanmi (Baba Onala) made waves on social media with his installation as an Archbishop under the Apostolic Communion of Nigeria (Bishops Association Oyo State Chapter). This event sparked a wave of dissatisfaction among many Celestians who questioned the decision to install an Assistant Venerable Superior Evangelist in Celestial Church as an Archbishop, especially when the Parish altar was already adorned with the lighting of the seven candles. After all, Celestial Church has its own established rituals and doctrines for anointing its members to various ranks within the Church.

Adding fuel to the fire, around mid November 2023, a viral video on social media showcased the same shepherd engaging in another doctrinal deviation. In this instance, a service conductor began the service without an Usher leading the procession without the customary use of incense. Furthermore, the picture of the shepherd himself covered in a cloth after donning his garment raised further questions and ignited intense discussions regarding the alignment of Oluso Onala’s actions with the Church’s fundamental ordinances.
One advocate for positive change raised concerns about public awareness through an online video show. This individual has questioned the historical accuracy of Oluso Onala’s fiction due to his involvement in activities that contradict the principles of Celestial Church of Christ. Instead of addressing the issues within his own Parish, which has significantly diminished his credibility among genuine Celestial members, he has chosen to undermine transparency through a radio program.
We strongly urge that A/V/S/E Matthew Kolawole Olakanmi also known as Baba Onala be held accountable if any harm befalls Prophet Emmanuel Ibukun or anyone who has expressed their dissatisfaction with the abuse of Church doctrine at CCC Onala Parish in Ibadan.
